Online Casino Stud Poker Is Popular In The UK And Europe – Overview, Rules And More for Casino Stud Poker Fans Here
Casino Stud Poker is a 5-card poker game played against the house (dealer) which is popular in the UK and Europe. This game is almost the same as Online Caribbean Stud Poker, with small variations in methodology, betting limits and odds. This article provides an overview of how casino stud poker works by going through a hand from start to finish.
We should note that Casino Stud Poker, both live and online, comes with a progressive jackpot game attached. This involves a separate bet (usually $1) with the pooled proceeds being paid out for a royal flush, straight flush, 4 of a kind or full house on a sliding scale. While this definitely adds the excitement of a potentially big payout to the game it is really just a side bet – so we will leave coverage at this mention.
Casino Stud Poker – Step-By-Step Through A Hand
Bets must be placed by players wishing to participate in a hand before the cards are dealt. These are placed in one of two circles on the felt in front of each player marked as the 'Ante' (the other betting circle is 'Raise'). Each player is the dealt 5 cards face down, these may not be shown to any other player in the game or removed from the table. The dealer is also dealt 5 cards, one of which is turned up for the table to see.
Based on the content of their hand, each player then makes a decision on whether to play or to fold. Folding at this point means that the ante bet is lost and this player takes no further part in the hand. Playing involves posting a 'raise' bet in the 2nd circle of exactly twice the ante.
Once all players have made their raise or fold decision the dealer turns their remaining 4 cards over. If the hand is Ace-King high or better it is said to qualify, triggering the dealers hand to be compared to the players hands according to the payout schedule below. If this hand is worse than Ace-King high it does not qualify, raise bets are returned, and players are paid at even money 1-to-1 on their ante bets.
Here is the payout schedule for Casino Stud Poker. Note that a royal flush is treated as any straight flush in this game – though it does scoop the progressive jackpot if entered!
- Straight Flush: 50-to-1
- 4 Of A Kind: 20-to-1
- Full House: 7-to-1
- Flush: 5-to-1
- Straight: 4-to-1
- 3 Of A Kind: 3-to-1
- 2 Pair: 2-to-1
- One Pair or Less: 1-to-1
